Welcome
to the
PH Disinfo Hub!

The Philippine Disinformation Resource Hub, PH Disinfo Hub for short, is a one-stop online portal for references, learning tools, events, and everything you need to know about disinformation studies in the Philippines.

The Hub features a collection of foundational texts on disinformation studies written by Filipino scholars at home and overseas from various disciplines. It aims to create a space for academics, teachers, librarians, civil society leaders and advocates to collaborate and share resources on media literacy and countering disinformation.

The imagery of wavy lines used in the logo dually signifies distortion (of truth and democracy) and dynamism (of knowledge and research). It represents both the problem that the Hub seeks to address and the solution that it offers.

Goal: Design a course with relevant and vetted references on disinformation studies in the Philippines

Modules:

  1. Introduction to disinformation studies in the Philippines

  4. The sociology of disinformation
  5. Legal debates on disinformation
  6. Disinformation beyond technological determinism
  7. Pathways for transforming the public sphere
  8. Showcasing the potential of online spaces

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the lessons about?

The eight lesson plans explore unique topics based on the modules of the Philippine Disinformation Studies Syllabus. Each lesson introduces key conceptual knowledge and develops the critical media literacy skills of students through guided discussion, critical analysis of case studies, and media-based performance tasks.

Who should take these lessons?

The Disinfo Hub lessons are primarily intended for Filipino senior high school students taking the Grade 11/12 core subject Media and Information Literacy (MIL). But the lessons can also be taken by junior high school and college/university students, and adult learners outside formal schooling.

While our main target users are Filipino learners, we highly encourage learners from other countries who are keen on learning about disinformation in the Philippines to utilize the lessons.

What learning materials can we use?

Each lesson includes a slide deck (downloadable via Canva), explainer video, and printable handouts and worksheets. Most recommended readings are freely accessible online.

Should the lessons be taken in a particular order?

The lessons do not follow a specific order, and may be taken depending on the needs and interests of the training participants. Lesson 1, however, is an introductory material that contains baseline knowledge for other lessons in the Hub.

Can we make changes in the lessons?

The lesson proper is intended to be delivered in a continuous manner within the estimated total lesson time. But instructors may also opt to divide it into segments, skip or add parts, depending on the context of the users.

We highly recommend the students to do the performance tasks after each lesson. Teachers should scaffold the instructions and rubrics based on the available materials, skills, interests, time and other resources of the students.
